Why your business needs a Recruitment VA.

When a business needs to hire and doesn't have an internal recruiter, the usual options are paying an agency, doing it yourself, or waiting until someone has capacity. None of those options get you the right result. Agencies are expensive, doing it yourself means the process gets squeezed around everything else, and waiting stunts your growth.

The businesses I work with are growing, fast. They know they need to hire well, but they aren't at the point where they can justify a full time hire. What they need is someone who can run the process properly, as and when they need it. That's where a Recruitment VA comes in.

What a Recruitment VA Actually Does‍ ‍

Think of your Recruitment VA as a talent partner, without the full time commitment (and the salary!). Someone who acts as an extension of your team, who can support with all aspects of the hiring process, as and when you need it, a true advocate for your business. Typically the services include:

  • Job adverts: Writing and posting roles that attract the right people, not just anyone who happens to be browsing.

  • Process build: If your hiring process doesn't exist yet or needs tidying up, I'll build it. Templates, scorecards, CRM setup, candidate comms, the full structure required to hire consistently and fairly.

  • Sourcing: Direct searches on LinkedIn and job boards to make sure the right people are found, not just the ones who applied.

  • Screening: Initial calls against the brief, so hiring managers are only spending time with candidates who are genuinely worth interviewing.

  • Shortlist: A properly prepared shortlist, with written summaries, so the decision is easier and the process moves faster.

  • Interview Coordination: Diaries coordinated, questions planned and invites sent.

This list is by no means exhaustive. As a Recruitment VA, I support with all aspects of the recruitment process, from initial job planning all the way through to onboarding and hiring manager training.

A Recent Project

This year I've worked with a growing values-led SME to recruit six critical hires across their central, sales and retail teams. Previously they had recruited ad-hoc, with no consistent process, leading to elongated interview processes and a costly agency spend. ‍

Working with their Head of People, we built a robust recruitment process for their hiring managers, focusing on candidate engagement. This included a simple CRM with personalised communications, job descriptions and adverts. Hiring managers could now keep CVs in one place and organise interviews at the touch of a button.

For each role, we advertised, did a thorough search on LinkedIn and approached candidates directly, providing each hiring manager with a shortlist of 3 to 6 candidates (all pre-screened) for them to review. All offers were accepted and the saving against agency fees was over 95%.

Is It Right for Your Business?

  • Are you looking to hire consistently this year and raise your employer brand?

  • Are you finding that you are spending hours sifting through CVs, not rejecting candidates and hoping for the best?

  • Are your hiring managers just doing their own thing, and potentially missing top talent?

  • Have you spent money on agency fees when in reality the role didn't require headhunting? (Agencies absolutely have their place and for certain roles are worth their weight in gold, but not always for everyday recruitment.

If you answered yes to any of these, chances are you need support. A recruitment VA will bring calm to the chaos, set you up for sustainable growth and help you get on top of your recruitment.
